Our January Student Spotlight… Robin Stover🧘♀️
My yoga journey began in January of 2017, which, coincidently, is when I met Brandy and three other yogis–Katie, Cynthia, and Kimber–who teach here. Worrying it would be similar to other exercise routines that I had abandoned almost from the get-go, I started my practice because I felt unfit and stressed. Almost from the first session, however, practicing yoga felt different from other workouts. I guess that’s because I discovered yoga is so much more than a work out. Certainly yoga offers exercise, which I very much appreciate; a hot class, especially, leaves me both energized and fatigued. The part that probably gives me an even greater sense of accomplishment, however, is what yoga does for my mind. When I step on my mat, I try to be really present. It’s hard for me to stay in any one moment, but as I practice yoga, I find there are more times when I can be aware of my movements and use them to quiet my restless thoughts, increase my flexibility, and decrease my waistline. It even has an added bonus of lowering my blood pressure. My yoga practice is very much a part of my fitness routine. I take my mat with me when I go on vacation even if it’s just a weekend trip. I have dragged it with me to Jamaica, to Ontario, and even to a two-week white water rafting journey on the Grand Canyon. I joined Lotus Hot Yoga in September of 2022 and have found a community of people who are warm and accepting. Locker room banter here is fun, and the instructors take time to connect with their clients. I hate to go a day without yoga. In fact, because there are different kinds of classes offered here, I often take two: both a gentle or yin class and a hot class on the same day. I am grateful for what I have learned about myself as I have explored my yoga practice, and I am thankful to be a member of Lotus.

As Sean prepares to play in the College All-Star game in Phoenix tonight I would like to take a moment to brag not only on his stellar basketball skills, named 2024 SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, but on his commitment to his yoga practice.
Sean’s unwavering dedication to the game follows him to his mat. It’s inspiring to see how he prioritizes his well-being and personal growth. Rain or Shine, busy schedule or not, Sean always finds the time to roll out his mat and dive into this practice. As he does each time he steps on the court, he approaches Yoga not just physically, but with such intention & mindfulness, a testament to his strength, discipline and dedication to his own journey.
It’s has truly been an honor to get to know Sean, to watch him grow and succeed on and off his mat.
